That thing looks crazy! I have to admit though, If it got that bad I would probably try something like that. I read about an orb kinda device once, basically you put your hands inside/on it and just move your hands very slightly left/right/up/down to perform various keystrokes. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called and couldn't find it on google :(

That thing looks as if it may be very helpful to RSI sufferers! I see one of those split keyboards at that site, too... I've wondered if that might help me, but I've been typing on a standard keyboard for so long, I've thought I may not be able to get used to it... anyone here ever use one?

I have a similar keyboard. A Microsoft Ergonomic 4000:

It's a great keyboard, I don't think I could go back to a standard one now. The only downside is that piece on the front that raises it (as it raises it too high for my keyboard shelf) but it can be removed, so no harm done there.

That looks like a great keyboard! Was it difficult to get used to it? I think this one looks like I could use it real quickly, but those that are actually split in the middle (like two separate mini-keyboards) may take a little more practice. I really need to look into a keyboard that's better for my wrists.

I may see the potential value of suggesting the ergonomic products for others, but I'm the type to wrap a bunch of Scotch tape around my hand in whatever "style" is needed to offer relief.

Your wrist rest could be a prime cause Kat. You should avoid resting your wrists at all when using the keyboard (keep them suspended above the keyboard) and then rest them in your lap when you're not typing. Doing this will reduce the amount of pressure on your nerves and tendons.

Well now that's quite interesting to consider! I just got a new chair that I can adjust to be higher so my wrists can be at that position. I think maybe, now that I'm thinking of this, that my chair should be about 5 inches higher or my keyboard 5 inches lower. Thanks for that tip!

I wish I really knew how to type so I can also use split keyboards. I'm a 2 finger typist. :D We usually have only 1 hand at the keyboard. That datahand contraption looks pretty interesting though. Is it some sort of a glove or the keyboard itself?

I can type with all my fingers, but due to the nature of my work i use fingers for keys that i shouldnt, and thus wouldnt work with the keyboard! Unfortunate really, i am really quite aware of the possibilities of RSI and want to do as much as possible to prevent it. But using my right hand for some keys that i also use my left hand for, it would cause some difficulties. For example i press the "t" key with my left and right index fingers depending on where i finished up with the rest of the word, i basically i use the hand that is closest to the key in question!

I was just reading the same thing .I posted to that effect on another thread. It seems the gel wrist supports just adds pressure to the nerves on your wrists.

I would almost wonder if you're better off not typing the "conventional" way. People who learned to type "officially" often use a kind of robot-like motion and rhythm to type.

I'm wondering if your apparently "willy nilly" approach to typing may be less likely to involve that rhythmic, same force, on the same parts of the fingers and hands that typing the "regular way" involves.

I will be switching that out for a regular mouse pad because this is making a whole lot of sense. Where that gel is *is* right where the wrist rests (tongue twister!) and I can see how it would make the top of my wrist numb with that constant pressure.
